Unfortunately in this day and time, people have to hope for the best but be mindful of the worst and prepare accordingly. We are here to help you understand what kind of protection you need in any given situaiton. During this write-up we are going to discuss some of the major Do's and Don'ts of properly Choosing and Using protection.
First there are so many different kinds of protection devices on the market today. People have options to choose from, but unfortunately people get confused and end up going with no protection or the wrong protection because they don't know what they need. First and foremost you must know the limitations that your local and or state goverment have placed on different protection devices. If it isn't legal to carry something, whether you like it or not, we don't ever recommend you breaking the law. We have included the known limitations on pepper spray and stun guns on our website, but ultimately the responsibility lies with the consumer to know their local restrictions.
We personally recommend 2.5 million volt stun guns (with safety pin) for civilians. Why? Because statistically speaking most of the time you will not know you are going to be a victim of a crime until the assailant is extremely close to you. In addition, some of these are the only devices made, when used properly, that can't be used against you. (remember the safety pin feature) But I don't want to let an assailant get that close to me! Neither do we, but unfortunately you don't have that choice. Normally the assailant doesn't stand on the other side of the street and yell that they are coming to assault you.
Secondly, we recommend FOX spray and tasers (tasers do require passing a background investigation), because these both need distance to the assailant but are extremely effective. If you are security personnel or law enforcement, then you don't want a stun gun. Simply speaking, this is your job to always be prepared and you have back-up to help if a situation arises. A civilian doesn't have the same opportunity as you.
What about batons, slappers, knives, blackcats, screechers, personal alarms, and so forth you may ask? These are options, but some of these require either certifications or special training to know how to properly use. These could be additions to either Pepper Spray, Stun Guns, or Tasers but we don't recommend these to become your primary defense device.
You ultimately have the choice to make and hopefully this information above will help you make that choice. Remember to get something or somethings that you will feel comfortable carrying. This is an important decision that could ultimately save your life.
