Safety Tips For Women
(Developed For All, but Especially For Women)
Safety Tips For Women
It is unfortunate that we have to spend so much time worrying about a basic right. We were all given equal rights.....that is specifically mentioned in the United States Constitution. Unfortunately, THUGs believe they can take those rights away from each one of us. Women specifically have been targeted for crimes, because usually they appear to be easier targets. Hopefully this section will give advice that will help ladies protect themselves, wether they live alone or with someone, and their families.
Several of our Safety Tip sections on this website overlap, but that is to be expected. Most Safety Tips mentioned can be applicable to numerous sections of our lives. Please read the tips below and share these with your family and friends.....these are a benefit to all our customers and friends.
Home Safety:
Always keep your doors and windows (even upstairs) locked! If you want fresh air in your homes, then use a proven brace bar for your partially open windows or a simple door stop alarm for your partially open doors, we have them both. This way you will know that somebody can't come into your home without you knowing. Definitely put all tools and ladders away each day when doing outside work. Don't give the THUG anything to use to break into your home. Always use a brace bar (look under our alarm section) on your sliding glass doors and windows and add a couple of screws in the header above the sliding door or window to prevent the door/window from being lifted out and off of the track.
Renters - demand that your landlord replace your locks. If you recently purchased a new home, then always replace your deadbolt and door locks. On all doors, install the StrikeMaster 2 because it is the only thing proven to keep your doors from being kicked in.
Make sure you install a peep hole on all doors. Always require a visitor to show identification and verify who they are --by simply making a 1 minute phone call to their business you can divert a home invasion. Is your life worth 1 minute of hassle to you and the person at the door? If someone approaches your house and asks to make a phone call....never allow them inside. Make the call for them while they are outside.
Even if you can't afford a fancy alarm, purchase a dependable and inexpensive alarm for your home. We have several to choose from and if you aren't sure which one is right for you (even after you read detailed descriptions) then email us (trcarter4@msn.com) and ask. We are glad to help! We never pretend to have all the answers, but we offer much more than great products at great prices.....we offer help. We carry very dependable, WIRELESS, and easy to use alarms.
We have one of the largest inventories in the United States, offering choices on window alarms, door alarms, motion detectors (inside and out), camera systems (both imitation and monitoring), car alarms, personal alarms, digital light timers, outlet receivers, baby monitors, child tracking systems, and so much more.
Consider installing simple motion activated lights outside. If those are too expensive, then simply put a $16 motion activated camera outside. Anything that you can do to make your home a less desirable target, the less likely you will be a target for a criminal. These inexpensive cameras look real and when motion is detected, they turn on and move independently.
Keep some type of protection in your home. We carry home versions of sprays, foggers, batons, and the famous stun gun models (we carry the only self-defense item made that can't be used against you if you use it properly). The Stun Guns & Pepper Spray don't require any permits in most every state in the United States (see our Stun Gun & Pepper Spray pages for legal details), so carry your protection with you when you leave the house.
If you are home alone and someone comes to your house. Prior to answering the door, yell out to a "make believe occupant of your home" that you will get the door. If you live alone, then make sure that you either keep an unlisted phone number or us only initials on your telephone listing. It is always best to use two initials (such as A. & M. Brown, instead of saying Andrea Marie Brown), because it appears that 2 people live there together.
Make sure to join your neighborhood crime watch group. Stay informed of crime in your area! You may need to add additional security to combat new crimes in your area. Check your local crime tracker regularly... for example this is the location for the one in Memphis, TN (CLICK HERE).
Even if you are not a fan of dogs, consider getting a dog. These animals can be great companions and their usually very good at hearing even the most minute noises. These guys and gals can be sometimes the best alert of trouble.
If you are at home, then keep your curtains drawn and multiple lights in the house on. Keep all valuables out of plain site.
If you are not at home, then make sure you use digital timers (we have some of the best) to randomly turn your home lights off and on. In addition we sell the outlet receivers, which allow you to remotely turn on lights and/or appliances in your home while you are sitting in your driveway and prior to entering your home. THESE ARE GREAT!
A little diligent home security will go a long way towards protecting your home, your assets, and your family.
Automobile Safety:
Please review our website page for great details. But once again, make sure you have some type of protection with you in your vehicle. This protection should be easily accessible and you should practice scenarios in your mind. Therefore, if the real event occurs you will be able to more clearly think what to do.
Make sure you always check your car prior to getting inside. Don't be talking on the cell phone while walking to your car, THUGS look for people that are not aware of their surroundings. Observe underneath your car, some THUGS will hide their and slash your achilles while bringing you underneath the car. If you see a van parked by your vehicle, then don't approach your car (even with protection). Go back inside a store and have security walk you to your vehicle.
Always lock your doors to your vehicle (whether you are inside the car or not). Even a car being unattended for a moment, gives the THUG plenty of time to get inside the vehicle. While driving keep your windows rolled up! Don't go to areas of town that are known to be dangerous. Of course that is just about everywhere now, so stay on a well lit street with plenty of open businesses around. If you have to make your path longer to avoid bad areas then do it......don't take chances with your life.
Not just THUGs, but consider the Safety Hammer for other emergency situations in your vehicle. This simple $8 tool is great if you have to get out of your vehicle while being trapped by either your seat belt, air bag, or if submerged under water. We carry the 4-in-1 Tools that do it all (cut the seat belt, puncture the airbag, break the automobile glass, and has a flashlight.
Always keep battery cables, first aid kit, and two good flashlights in your car.
Whatever protection device you choose to use.....make sure you have the device in your hand prior to leaving your vehicle, leaving a store or other business, or leaving your house. Your protection does you no good sitting in your purse, pocket, or car.
Finally, remember that when you have to get out of your car....look around well and move quickly. Make yourself appear to know exactly what you are doing. When leaving a store or your vehicle, always try to move quickly.
Exercising:
We have additional safety tip sections that are directly applicable to a person's safety (Women especially) outside the home. These are great for people who love to exercise. These tips were recently selected for publication. Please see this section for the information >> CLICK HERE
MOST IMPORTANTLY >> Be AWARE of your surroundings at all times. The more you practice being aware, the LESS LIKELY you will be a target for a THUG. THUGS look for easy targets and you want to make sure you are not an easy target....being AWARE is the first step in that direction.
