Anything passing by the transmitter (range is 20 to 30 feet for the transmitter) will cause the receiver, in your house, to sound a pleasant chime. This makes a great alert for folks with small children. Place it by the doorways and if the child tries to leave the chime sounds to alert you.
Be creative and place the transmitter approximately 3 to 4 feet above the ground in an area around your house and it will let you know if an intruder comes around (imagine where you would enter your house if you were to be robbing yourself and put it there).
Transmitter to receiver has up to a 400 foot range. This works great in-case you have a long driveway or even a shed deep in your backyard.
